  1. Definition of family from different perspectives. Approaches to family study- Biological, historical, sociological, anthropological, developmental, structural and functional, interactional, institutional approach etc.
  2. Changing structural and functional aspects of Indian family.
  3. Family life cycle, family process.

  1. Kinship: Types of Kinship, Anthropological view of kinship, consanguineous and affinal, degree of kinship, range of a kinship system, kinship descent, kinship usages, kinship and their influence on the child.
  2. Society: Structure- rural & urban, modern society and its influence on the family.

  1. Personality and society - Inter-relation, cultural influences on human personality and social behavior.
  2. Culture, law and civilization- Meaning,Types. 
  3. Institutions, customs, habits, fashion, convention and etiquette, manners, tradition and ceremonies, folkways and mores,  social control and conformity- Meaning,Types 
  4. Social status and social class- Differences in behavior, child rearing practices, perception, occupation , education & mobility, employment of mother.
  5. Family life education.

  1. Woman and the Law: Legislation pertaining to marriage, property, Hindu-marriage act, Hindu succession act, Antidowry  act.
  2. Status of women- Demographic, political, social, educational, economic, legal.
  3. Factors influencing status, roles and responsibilities of men and women.

  1. Problems of women- Dowry, suicide, health, women and mass media, sexual exploitation, women criminals,  prostitution, eve teasing , rape.
  2. Intervention and relief programs- family violence, battered women, child maltreatment, sexual abuse, separation and divorce, mother employed outside.
