Objective: 

This course will enable the students to understand

  • The basic laws and principles of physics.
  • Brief layout of various household appliances and household electricity.

Mechanics
  • Concept of measurements and units of length, mass and time in CGS, MKS and British systems and their interrelationship.
  • Friction – Rolling, sliding and limiting. Methods of reducing friction.
  • Elementary ideas of surface tension. Cohesive and adhesive forces.

Heat
  • Scales of temperature and their conversion, clinical thermometer.
  • Transmission of heat: Various modes of transmission of heat conduction convection and radiation and their applications in daily life.

Household appliances I
  • Mechanical appliances: Food processor, washing machine, and vacuum cleaner.
  • Thermal electric appliances: Electric iron, toaster, heater, water heater, geyser, OTG, Microwave oven.
