Quiz Competition (Literacy Day)

The students of M.Sc, Human Development and B.Sc Home Science went to the Government Secondary School Located in Kalyanpura, Mansarowar on 8th September 2015 in order to celebrate “World Literacy Day”. The students were escorted by the teachers Ms. Archana Kumari and Ms. Chanchal Sinha and reached at the venue around 10.30 am. The principal of the school was already informed about the activity and thereby helped the students in making necessary arrangements.

Before going to the school a Quiz competition was planned by the students with the help of the teachers. The methods of conducting the competition and the questions to be asked were prepared before in hand by the students and teachers. There were 40 questions from history, geography, political science and current affairs.

After reaching the school and making necessary arrangements ten students from class Xth and ten students from class IXth were selected including both boys and girls. They were divided into four groups with mix up of students of class IXth and Xth. Each group was given a name like: Agni, Ambar, Vayu and Prithvi. The whole quiz competition was divided into four rounds. Each round had ten questions and was carrying ten marks. The rule was that when the question was put to a group and if they answer, they will get ten marks for correct answer and if they cannot then the same question will be passed on to the next group with a bonus marks five.

After each round totaling was done and at the end of the quiz a grand totaling was done for all groups.The group Agni scored the highest with 120 marks and grabbed the position first. But there was a tie in vayu and Prithvi, Each of them scored 50 marks so one question was asked to them and marks of that question was added in their score. Finally group Vayu secured second position and group Prithvi secured third position in the competition.

All the winners were given prizes. Throughout the competition the principal of the school cooperated with the students and he was feeling proud to see their students answering the questions so confidently.
