On the occasion of National Breast Week (1st -7th August 2014), Department of Home Science has organized various activities in collaboration with Indian Academy of Paediatrician and National Neonatology Forum. The activities were poster making competition, 2 guest lectures, a panel discussion and a Quiz. The students of M.Sc. Home Science (Foods and Nutrition, B Sc home science, B Sc CND Electives have actively participated in all the activities.

On 4th August 2014, 39 students have participated in the poster making competition. It was made compulsory for all M Sc students to participate and prepare individual poster but for undergraduate students, they were allowed to prepare in groups also. A total of 31 posters were prepared and they were displayed in Srijan Hall. The judges were Dr Alok Gupta, President, Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Dr Mahesh Singh, Assoc Prof., Dept of Fine Arts, The IIS University, Jaipur and Mr Shwet Goyal, Asst Prof. , Dept of Fine Arts, The IIS University, Jaipur. The judges have critically evaluated the posters and declared the results. The winners were

The second activity was guest lecture. The speakers were Dr Swati Ghate, Medical Superintendent and Paediatrician, Sogani Hospital, Jaipur and Dr Chanchal Singhal, Paediatric consultant and neonatologist, Babylon Children Hospital, Jaipur. Both of them have focussed on “Benefits of breast feeding both for the mother and the child”, about the breast milk donation bank, Physiology of Lactation, Positions for proper feeding of the child, nutritional significance of breast milk, Why breast milk is better than other formula’s available in the market? They have talked about the social aspects related to breast feeding also.
The guest lecture was followed by panel discussion. The panelists were Dr Swati Ghate, Dr Chanchal Singhal, Dr Alok Gupta and Dr Rajpreet Soni. Dr Rajpreet Soni, consultant Paediatrics and neonatology at Cocoon Hospital and Bone Marrow transplant physician at South East Asian Institute of Thalassemia, Jaipur. All the panellists have clarified the doubts of the audience. The students have actively participated in the panel discussion.
On 7th August 2014, the day started with quiz on questions related to nutritional significance of breast milk, physiology of lactation, benefits of breast milk both to the mother and the child, storage of breast milk and many more. All the students who have participated in the quiz were divided into 5 teams and each team comprises of both the UG and PG students. The teams were sapphire, emerald, Ruby, Pearl and Topaz. There were 5 rounds in the Quiz.
