Guest Lecture on Teen Troubles and Concerns

A guest lecture was organized on “Teen Troubles and Concerns” for the students of M Sc Home Science (HD)  and BSc HSc on 11 September ,2015 by MSc HSc (Human Development) Department. The speaker was Prof. Dr Sudha Katyal  from Government Home Science College, Chandigarh. She is Head of Department of Home Development and Family Relations (HDFS). She is  also member of State Advisory Council ,U.T, Chandigarh for implementation of Right to Education Act.

She talked about the various problems and troubles faced by the adolescents. Menstruation , teenage pregnancy, eating disorders, academic stress ,anemia,  substance abuse, anxiety are the various topics on which discussion was done in depth. Furthermore, she explained the process of menarche in detail and explained the menstrual cycle. Dr. Katyal also told students about risk factors of teen age. She recommended them that they should seek complete knowledge from their parents, be friendly, understanding with their parents. Students should use sanitary pads during menstruation to avoid various complications of urine infection. She also cleared the myths related to menstruation.

Dr. Katyal also emphasized on regular studies to avoid academic anxiety. If the students regularly read chapters  then they will not face problems.then students should also not indulge in bad habits of drinking, substance abuse and bulvinia nervosa etc.

In the end, Mam, focused on role of life skills in overcoming teen age troubles and concerns. She stressed on two important things in life-adaptive and positivitism. If we are adaptive with the new environment, motivated and have positivity in our behavior , then we will always be successful in life.
