Guest Lecture on "Carreer opportunities in Foods and Nutrition

Report of guest lecture by Dr Veenu Seth

A guest lecture was organized on “Career opportunities in Foods and Nutrition” for the students of M Sc Home Science (Foods and Nutrition) II and Sem IV and B. Sc Home Science and B Sc CND electives. The speaker was Dr Veenu Seth, retired associate professor, Lady Irwin College, New Delhi.

She has focussed on the meaning of nutrition and the rising need of nutritionist in India and the main areas of specialization in foods and nutrition. She has also elicited on the present opportunities like dietician in government and private hospitals, gym, slimming centres, NGO’s – national and international, organizations like-WHO, UNICEF, FAO etc. Ma’am has also created awareness about placement in govt. departments like- Ministry of Health and Family welfare, Women and Child development and Food processing. Students can take projects of ICMR, ICAR, CSIR etc. She has focussed on placements with both pharmaceutical, nutraceutical companies and food companies like Kellogg’s, GSK, Smithline etc. Students can also work with Food analysis laboratories–both private and government. They can open their own counselling cell and can also work as entrepreneurs. Dr Seth has also shared the placement of the students of Lady Irwin College with different National and International organization. She has actually shared a huge list of food companies, different organizations, NGO’s, national and International bodies, government bodies, hospitals, slimming centres, nutaceutical and pharmaceutical companies, etc. where the delhites were successfully placed.

Overall it was a very fruitful and eye opening lecture and interaction session for the students.
