Orientation Report

The Department of Home Science at IIS (Deemed to be University), Jaipur, conducted an orientation programme on 19th August, 2025, for Undergraduate(UG) and Postgraduate(PG) students. The students were welcomed with a traditional tikka ceremony, followed by a PowerPoint presentation by Head, Dr. Nalini Totuka. The session introduced the faculty’s expertise and teaching experience, giving students an overview of the department and learning opportunities.

Classes, tutorials, and laboratory sessions follow a structured timetable that is shared with students at the beginning of each semester, was also briefed again. The department is located in A, C, and the Main block with dedicated classrooms and well-equipped Foods and Nutrition, Human Development, and Extension laboratories to facilitate practical learning.

 The annual departmental calendar outlines academic and co-curricular activities like seminars, workshops, guest lectures, internships, and field visits for holistic development. Aligned with NEP 2020, the curriculum blends theory, experiential training, and research, with credit-based courses. Programme outcomes emphasize critical thinking, application of psychology, and ethics, while learning outcomes focus on understanding behaviour, assessments, and effective interventions.

The evaluation system was explained, covering Continuous Assessment (CA) and Semester-End Examinations (SEE) for balanced learning. Students were also introduced to notable alumnae, placement and internship opportunities, and informed about the rich resources of both the university and departmental libraries, including textbooks, journals, and digital databases.

The students were also informed about the departmental website and guided on how to access important information such as the syllabus, academic notices, upcoming events, and various departmental activities. Towards the end of the orientation, some light recreational games were organized to help the students relax, interact with their peers, and build a sense of camaraderie.

The session concluded with refreshments, providing an informal space for faculty and students to connect, share experiences, and foster a welcoming environment for the new academic journey.
