guest lectures organized on World Breast Week (1st -7th August),

On the occasion of World Breast Week (1st -7th August), Department of Home Science has organized a guest lectures for the students o 6th August 2019 in Aditya Hall, IISU Campus.

The speakers were Dr Raj kumar Goyal, Paediatrician, Cocoon Hospital, Jaipur and Dr Kavita Goel, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Laparoscopic Surgeon, Cocoon Hospital, Jaipur.

Dr Kavita Goel has talked about the healthy dietary habits among college college girls and general health issues during this age group. She focussed on the various causes of stress and anxiety among this age group. She has also emphasised the Role of healthy diet in treating it. She has also discussed about common health issues like PCOD, obesity which are very prevalent now-a-days. Anorexia nervosa, bulimia and other eating disorders are also found among this age group due to various reasons. She has also shared her experience of treating the college going girls with different health problems.

She has given a takeaway message also that high fat and carbohydrate rich diet should be avoided in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The topic covered by Dr Rajkumar Goyal was “Importance of breastfeeding”. He has discussed the importance of colostrum to the new born baby. He emphasised on importance of breast milk both to the mother and the baby & the society. He has talked about Physiology of Lactation, Positions for proper feeding of the child, nutritional significance of breast milk, Why breast milk is better than other formula’s available in the market? He has also shared about the social aspects related to breast feeding also. He has also shared his experience of dealing with the attendants of a lactating mother, how he convinces people to avoid other top feeds like water, honey, gripe water etc. According to him, it is tough to convince people to exclusively breastfeed the baby.

Overall, both the lectures were very interesting and were of great help to the students as they will be the future mothers.
