Street Children: Issues and Concerns

A guest lecture was organized on “Street Children: Issues and Concerns” for the students of M Sc Home Science (HD) and B.Sc H.Sc on 15th October, 2019 by M.Sc H.Sc (Human Development) Department. The speaker was Mr. Rakesh Periwal, who is presently the MD of a non government Organisation- ‘TAABAR’.
TAABAR a non-governmental organization established in 2007 helps and supports children in difficult circumstances by providing community-based rehabilitation for orphans, runaways, street children, slum children, and the misguided youth through its various programmes.
Mr. Rakesh Periwal, began his discussion with a very concerned issue of street children.
He spoke about the circumstances causing the child to run away from home and becoming street children. He also talked about various problems faced by those children and how they struggle to survive on street. After making the students aware about the street children and their problems, he talked about various projects run by TAABAR such as Bal Basera, Taabar’s School, Restoration, Mobile Clinic and outreach work.
The rescue process or street children was explained by Mr. Periwal and he shared few on-field challenges he came across during rescue ad rehabilitation operations.
Among many information shared by Mr. Periwal, the child helpline number was also shared with students. Above all the session was very informative.
