The celebration of Children’s day week was begun with a guest lecture on child abuse which was organized on 9th November 2022 by the Department of Home Science. The activity was coordinated by Dr. Archana Kumari and dr. Namita Bhatnagar, Faculty of Human Development in the Department of Home Science.  The resourse persons were Mr. Naveen Jain (I.A.S), Sparsh Mentor, Secretary to Government of Rajasthan, Department of Panchayati Raj, Ms. Priyanka Kapoor, Sparsh Coordinator, Consultant Family Welfare, NHM, Rajasthan, and Mr. Vikram S. Rajeev, Sparsh Coordinator, UNICEF Consultant-SDG, DoPR & Plan, GoR.

The talk began with the explanation of the word “abuse” and what kind of activities can be considered as abuse. The discussion moved further with differentiation between sexual harassment and sexual abuse and the legal provision for protecting children from these abuse. The resource persons discussed in detail about the POCSO Act, 2012 and the provisions given in the act for safeguarding the identity of the victim confidential. They also talked about few organisations working for protecting child abuse especially in Rajasthan. The lecture ended with Vote of thanks. Overall the lecture was very informative and an addition in the knowledge sphere of the students.
