The Department of Home Science organized an Orientation Session for the first-year undergraduate and postgraduate students of both pass course and honours courses on 25th August 2023 in Aditya Hall. It was a two-hour interaction session facilitated by the second and third-year students.
The tikka-moli ceremony was organized to welcome the new students, and the session began with a welcome message, by Prof. Ila Joshi, Director, School of Home Science. She talked in brief about the department establishment and upcoming conference in the department.
The session commenced with the introduction of the faculty members of the department. The Head, Dr Nalini Totuka, displayed a PowerPoint presentation that explained the scheme of examinations which includes both Continuous Assessment and Semester end examination. The Continuous or Internal Assessment includes four vital components – C.A. Test (15 marks), classroom activity (5 marks), quiz (5 marks), and home assignment (5 marks) of which passing marks in pass course is 11 and in honours course is 12. These components make a total of 30. The semester-end examination comprises 70 marks. The passing marks are 25 for the passing course and 28 for the honours course. The presentation also covered the various features of the department.
The session was further taken over by Dr Gargi Saxena, Additional Head. Apart from the academic pattern, the students were also made aware of the various extracurricular activities organized by the Department. She explained about placement, educational visits, alumnae details, and various events organized in the department. Furthermore, they were made acquainted with the departmental activity calendar. The information regarding Library facilities and e-resources available in the library was also covered in the orientation session. They were also told about the dos and Don’ts to be followed by the students in the library as well as in campus.
A motivational and inspirational talk on the theme, ‘Career opportunities in home Science, was also presented by Ms. Ishita, focussed on the career opportunities of Home Science. Then another alumna Ms. Muskaan Tiwari also interacted with students on career opportunities in Human development.
