Objective: 

This course will enable the students to :

  1. Understand the role of tools and computer applications in research.

Apply tools and techniques to gather data for analyzing and interpreting the development

Unit I                                                                                                                           12 Hrs
a)   Techniques of research in Human Development –Time span approach-cross sectional,  longitudinal,  sequential   approach across the age span- children, adolescents,  children with special needs, youth women and elderly.

b)Methods of studying behaviour – Observation, Interview and Questionnaire, Case study methods    –  Meaning, Types, Factors  involved in preparation and administration, Advantages and disadvantages of   techniques, Case history- report writing.

Unit II                                                                                                                                    12 Hrs

 Assessment of mental ability – Verbal and non-verbal tests – Bayle Scales of Infant

Development, Wechsler Intelligence Scales, Raven (Colour) Progressive Matrices, modern Binet tests – Uses and limitations of tests

Test of multiple intelligence.Psychological Test –Characteristics and uses, limitations and ethical considerations  in testing.

Unit III                                                                                                                                   12Hrs                                                                                                                     

a) Measurement of Social and Emotional Development – Sociometric method and sociogram

b) Emotional intelligence and competencies - Uses and limitations.

c) Personality Assessment – Rating Scales and Inventories -Cattle 16 PF,

Unit IV                                                                                                                                   12Hrs

a) Projective Techniques – Children Apperception tests, Word Association test, Draw-a-man test, Rorschach ink-blot  test ,Thematic Apperception Test, Word association test, psychodrama.

b) Role play- Applicability.

c)Vocational interest scales-Thurston scale, Academic achievement test.

 

Unit V                                                                                                                                    12 Hrs

  1. Assessment of Attitudes –Survey of batteries: Attitudes of various persons towards various social issues-  marriage, family planning and population education etc.
  2. Adjustment inventories.
  3. Assessment of Aptitude, Interest and Achievement – Survey of batteries,  Differential aptitude test
  4. Evaluation of available tools, Relevance of tools to the Indian conditions, precautionary measures  in the use of tools.
