Objective: 

This course will enable the students to :

  • Plan activities for various age groups.
  • Improve writing / creative skills.
  • Plan developmentally appropriate activities in art, music, movement, and drama that can be used with children ages birth to eight.
Unit I: 
Planning Programming

1. Programme Planning-Principles, needs & basic abilities developmental level of children

2. Planning.- Long range & short range.Annual & term wise.

Monthly & daily Planning

3. Impact of planned activities on various age groups

Unit II: 
Creative activities for children
  1. Story telling- Importance, themes  and techniques of story telling, use of aids in storytelling (books, sand tray, flashcards, puppets, and role-play, masks), role in a child’s development.
  2. Action songs, music & rhythm activities- voice modulation, role in a child’s development.
  3. Puppets- types, script writing for puppet skit, preparation of backdrop and sound effects required for puppet shows, presentation of show to target audience
Unit III: 
Planning and of execution of Creative activity

1.      Art and Craft Activities- Painting (blow, block, wax, etc.),

2.      Collage making from varied materials,

3.      Clay modeling, mask making, origami and paper folding, making simple toys and playthings, role in a child’s development.

4.      Creative Experiences-

a)                  First-hand experience,

b)                  Exploration & Manipulation,

c)                  Problem solving approach,

d)                 Sensory experience

Unit IV: 
Concept of IEC Material
  1. Meaning ,Importance types of IEC Material
  2. Role of IEC material for development.
  3. Criteria for selecting IEC material
  4. Types of IEC material- Graphics and audio visual charts, posters, flashcards, flexes, flip books, pamphlets, leaflets, brochures, booklets, modules, manuals
  5. Mass Media: IEC materials for radio, television, newspapers and magazines
    •  Radio scripts writing
    • T.V. programme scripts writing
    • News paper, magazine article writing
Unit V: 
Literature for Children

1. Children’s Literature- Characteristics of young readers, types of children’s literature, role of literature in a child’s development.

2.Values of books and reading in early years, developing reading habits.

3. Writing Children’s literature - Principles and methods of effective writing.
