Objective: 
  1. Impart knowledge of fundamental facts of textile fibers, yarns and fabrics in terms of properties and production.
  2. Develop an ability to identify and categorize different fabrics on the basis of their manufacturing techniques.
  3. Impart skills to identify different types of fibers and yarns.
  4. Develop an ability to analyze various dyes, printing and finishes used in the textile industry.

  • Basic principles of yarn making- Mechanical spinning (cotton spinning), Chemical spinning- Wet, Dry and Melt.
  • Types of yarns – Simple, Novelty and Textured yarns.
  • Yarn Twist and Yarn Numbering system.

Fabric Construction Methods

                                               

  • Fabric Construction Methods - Weaving, Knitting, Braiding, Lacing and Netting and Non wovens
  • Weaving – Parts of loom, Types of loom, Stages in weaving process/ motions of loom.
  • Knitting: Classification of knits; Construction and properties of warp and weft knits,
  • Non woven Fabrics made from fibers- Felting and Bonding
  • Classification of basic weaves.

  • Basic/Routine Finishes: Singeing, Desizing, Napping, Scouring, Bleaching, Stiffening, Weighting, Basic Calendaring, Tentering, Mercerization
