Objective: 

The course will enable the student to-

  • Understand the concept, needs and problems of disabled children
  • Evaluate the legislative provision for children with special needs
  • Understand causes, diagnosis and remedial measures for different types of disability
  • Apply the skills of taking remedial measures for different kind of disabilities.

CO32: Appraise the legislations and Acts for disabled in India

CO33: Develop remedial

measures for communication disorder, emotional disturbance, autism and learning disability.

CO34: Develop the skills for counselling parents of children with special needs.

CO35: Examine the causes, classification and diagnosis and remedial measures for visual, hearing, orthopedic  and intellectual disability.

Approaches in Teaching: Lecture & discussion specific to current research in ECCE, Audio visual resources, xperiential learning through demonstration Learning activities for the Students:

Self -directed /: Read joournal articles, books to collate information on need and rationale of ECCE, assignments, field practicals.

Quiz. PPT, Group discussion, Class test focusing on definitions, short notes, match the following, assignments, CA test , Semester End Examination.

  2. Children with special needs- concept, definition, causes, needs, problems and classification of special children.

 

  1. Legislations and act for disabled in India-RCI act 1992, PWD act 1995 and National Trust act (1999) and Mental Health Act (1987)
  2. Special features of Right of person with Disability Act, 2016.

  1. Physical and health impairments- Orthopedic, neurological, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, limb deficiency, epilepsy, diabetes, asthama, cystic fibrosis, hemophilia, AIDS
  2. Visual impairment, legal blindness, Braille
  3. Hearing impairment, sound, audiometry, degree, dactylology
  4. Intelletual Disability

  2. Prevention of disabilities- Techniques for pre natal assessment, chorionic villus sampling- fetoscopy, amniocentesis, ultrasound, maternal blood analysis, genetic counselling.

  3. Counselling parents of children with special needs.
