Objective: 

 

The course will enable the student to -

1.      Understand importance of childhood years.

2.      Understand about various development in childhood.

3.      Understand psychology and  its application in child development.

4.      Know various types of early childhood education program.

 

  •       Childhood years – meaning, stages, characteristics, significance and development task of various stages of childhood years ( Early , middle and late childhood ), Children’s rights.
  •       The course of physical growth – change in body size, proportion, composition.
  •        Motor, cognitive, language, socio- emotional development during various stages of childhood, factors affecting various development.

  • Multilingualism, handedness.
  • Parenting in childhood, disciplinary practices and their influence on personality.

 

  •         Emotions- nature, bodily changes in emotions, development  and importance of emotional self – regulation, emotional sensitivity.

  •         Socialization- Meaning, agencies- family, school and peer group – their importance and significance of socialization.

  •         Adjustment- Meaning, methods of adjustment ,conflict, frustration,

 

Motivation- Meaning, characteristics, need, drive, incentive, types.

  • Intelligence-  definition, types of intelligence tests, measurement of intelligence- mental age, intelligence quotient.
  • Behavioral problems in  children-Definition, causes , prevention and modification therapies  - hurting other children, destructive attitude, using abusive language, thumb  sucking, bedwetting, masturbation, refusal to eat, lying, stealing, running away, pica, truancy.
