The course will enable the student to -

  1. Childhood years – meaning, stages, characteristics, significance and development task of various stages of childhood years ( Early , middle and late childhood ), Children’s rights.
  1. The course of physical growth – change in body size, proportion, composition.
  1. Motor, cognitive, language, socio- emotional development during various stages of childhood,factors affecting various development.
  1. Multilingualism, handedness.
  2. Parenting in childhood, disciplinary practices and their influence on personality.

Intelligence and Behaviour

1.      Intelligence-  definition, types of intelligence tests, measurement of intelligence- mental age, intelligence quotient.

2.      Behavioral problems in  children-Definition, causes , prevention and modification therapies  - hurting other children, destructive attitude, using abusive language, thumb  sucking, bedwetting, masturbation, refusal to eat, lying, stealing, running away, pica, truancy.
