A guest lecture was organized on 15thOctober 2014 on “Prenatal and Ante-natal Care and Complications” to aware students about the care and complications of pregnancy. Dr Nupur Kasliwal, presently working as consultant gynecology in Somani Hospital , Mahesh Nagar, Gopalpura Byepass, Jaipur. She was formally working at Spring Meadows Hospital, east of Kailash Delhi, and also worked as consultant at Fortis Escorts Hospital , Jaipur for many years. She also have conducted many camps and regular antenatal care at anganwadi centres.
She talked about the ‘Prenatal and Ante-natal Care and Complications’. She emphasized on importance of prenatal period. According to her, pregnancy is not a disease but it’s a normal period where little physiological changes take place. She made us aware of the fact that pregnant mother should eat healthy diet and extra supplements of iron and calcium for the normal baby. Dr. Kasliwal has also focussed light on the importance of yoga, physical exercises etc during pregnancy. Madam, has also told us that the pregnant mother should not take any medication without doctor advice, should not be alcoholic ,smoking etc. as it might have adverse effects on baby.
She has emphasized on the benefits of prenatal care. If the pregnant mother is healthy, then the chances of abortion, miscarriages,small for date babies etc can be avoided. She has also focused on various types of delivery methods i.e. normal, ceaserian,forcep delivery. How fraternal and identical twins are different from each other. She also explained the various tests to determine genetic disorder and abnormalities.
He has also focussed on the existing scenario of prenatal care in India. Focussed on points where India is lagging behind. He said that India is a land of opportunities. He has also focussed on eating habits and prejudices which pregnant women have specially in rural areas. How they are being taken care of in the Hospitals and the feeds given to them to improve their nutritional status.
At the end, Madam asked questions to the undergraduate and post graduate students of department of Human Development . She has also appreciated the knowledge of the students.
