The B.Sc (H) H. Sc. and M. Sc H. Sc. (Human Development), semester I, Department of Home Science visited the Neoclinic hospital on 28th November 2022. The students were escorted by Dr. Archana Kumara, Dr. Titiksha Choyal and reached the hospital around 11:00 a.m.  The objective behind the visit was to observe the neonates in NICU, premature and small for date babies and also to learn the medical facilities provided to them and process of taking anthropometric measurements of neonates in the hospital.

Neoclinic Hospital is a specificity caring centre for children (ages 0-18 yrs.) and mothers. Neoclinic Hospital was established in July-2007 with an aspiration to provide specialized & Comprehensive paediatric medical care to children. The Hospital is known for it’s critical care centre for newborn, toddler & adolescent. It is situated in the heart of the city, close to the Masarovar metro station.

The NICU was directed by neonatologists and staffed by nurses, therapists, physicians, ancillary disciplines and specialists. It included low birth weight, premature, small for dates, surgical and oxygen deprivation neonates. The NICU at Neoclinic is a modern 30 bedded unit fully equipped to care for: Newborns with complex medical problems. The nursery is a level II plus unit & is staffed by an array of specially trained & certified pediatricians, nurses including neonatal nurse practitioners, therapists & & consultant specialists.

The pediatrician in charge of NICU, Dr. Kiran made us visit the NICU. Before showing them the neonates, she explained about the types of neonates come in NICU, importance of APGAR score and anthropometric measurement. She demonstrated the procedure of taking anthropometric measurement and reflexes in neonate with the help of a baby dummy.
