PLANNING ACTIVITIES FOR VARIOUS AGE GROUPS ( THEORY)

Unit I                                                                                                                                9 Hrs

1. Physical, cognitive and creative capabilities of various age groups in context of sex, opportunities and interests.
2. Impact of planned activities on various age groups.

Unit II                                                                                                                             9 Hrs

       Communicative activity

1. Story telling- Importance, themes  and techniques of story telling, use of aids in storytelling (books, sand tray, flashcards, puppets, and role-play, masks), role in a child’s development.
2. Action songs, music & rhythm activities- voice modulation, role in a child’s development.

Preparation of developmentally appropriate kits & games, developing concept games- testing of games & kits, evaluation and modification in prepared games and kits.

    Unit III                                                                                                                             9 Hrs

       Planning, preparation and method of execution of Creative activity

1. Art and Craft Activities- Painting (blow, block, wax, etc.),
2. collage making from varied materials,
3. clay modeling, mask making, origami and paper folding, making simple toys and playthings,  role in a child’s development.

Unit IV                                                                                                                                    9 Hrs

       Informative activity

Puppetry skills  and role in a child’s development.- Puppet making (from waste material, paper, glove, sticks, bottle, rod, finger, shadow, socks etc.),  manipulation exercises related to techniques of puppet manipulation), script writing for puppet skit, preparation of backdrop and sound effects required for puppet shows, presentation of show to target audience .

Unit V                                                                                                                                     9 Hrs 

Literary activity

a)   Children’s Literature- Historical overview of the development of children’s literature in India and other countries,  characteristics of young/ older readers, types of children’s literature, role of literature in a child’s development, using literature for educational and  therapeutic purposes, evaluation of available children’s literature.

b)   Values of books and reading in early years, developing reading habits. 

c)   Writing Children’s literature - Principles and methods of effective writing, rules of grammar, sentence construction;   paragraphing,  narration, sequence, logic.

d) Principles of analyzing literature, reviewing novels
