Objective: 

This is to enable the students :                                   
1.  To acquaint students with the techniques and skills of pattern drafting.
2. To give basic knowledge of constructional techniques.

 

 

1.Study on interrelationship of needle, thread, stitch length and fabric.                               

    -Taking body measurements for women and children                                                        

2. Introduction to sewing machine its parts and their function.                                                 

3.  Basic Operations – Straight, Curve, Spiral, Reverse and Corners.                            

4. Seams:                                                                                                                    

  • Plain Seam and its finishing                                                                              
  • Flat Seam – Run and Fell, Ridge seam, French Seam
  • Decorative Seams – Lapped, slot ,fagotting

5. Edge Finishing – Shaped facing, Bias facing, Bias binding.                                    

6. Pocket – Patch Pocket                                                                                                   ,

7. Plackets- Central Button closures- even hem, Wrap over projection, kurta placket,

     slit opening                                                                                                                            

8. Disposal of fullness- Darts, Tucks, Gathers and Pleats (Knife, Box, Inverted Box).               

9.  Introduction to closures ( Fasteners) and their application                                         

10. Drafting of Basic Blocks:                                                                                                              Child`s– Bodice & Sleeve block                                                                                           

  • Adult- Slim skirt

 

11. Adaptations of blocks                                                                                                          

a    Child`s Bodice block to different styles of frock – A line, Yoked, gathered, pleated and flared.

b    Sleeve block to a – Puff and Flared

c    Slim Skirt to A- Line, Flared and paneled skirt

     d     Variation of Collars     - Convertible ( Bush shirt)                                                      

                                       Non- convertible- Flat and Raised ( Peter Pan)

                                       Stand- Chinese s

            Make samples of sleeves & collars on muslin.
