This course will enable the students to:

• Assess the physiological status of an infant.
• Assess the development in childhood.
• Plan program and activities for children.

Life span development – I Prenatal and childhood

 

Student will be able to –

 

COHD22: Develop the skills to measure and assess the anthropometric measurements of children in different age groups.

 

COHD23: Construct check list to assess the developmental characteristics of development.

 

COHD24: Demonstrate ways to assess assess the case study of a selected child.

COHD25: Develop ways to relate theoretical knowledge about reflexes and clarify the concepts learned.

COHD26: Formulate activities based on different aspects of development

COHD27: Develop skills to use projective techniques and apply the knowledge on children assessment.

COHD28: Select the concept and theory in development of the stimulation kits for infants.

Approaches in Teaching:  Interactive Lectures, Charts Power Point Presentation, Psychometric Tests- Children Apperception Test (CAT)

 

 

Learning activities for the Students:

Self learning assignments, field practicals.

Quiz. PPT, Pamphlet/Poster making Observation analysis,assignments, CA test , Semester End Examination.

 

 

Contents:

  1. Anthropometric Measurement and Assessment of Children in Different Age Groups and Settings: Plotting and interpretation of Growth Charts.
  2. Preparation and implementation of Check List to Assess Physical, Motor, Social, Language, Emotional and Cognitive Developmental Tasks.
  3. Case Study of a Selected Child.
  4. Observation of neonatal reflexes.
  5. Formulating activities for Infants and Children to promote development- Motor, cognitive, language and socio-emotional.
  6. To understand one projective test.
  7. Visit to NICU and child care centers
