Objective: 

Course Objectives (COs):

This course will enable the students to –

  1. Impart the knowledge about fiber identification and fabric study.
  2. Impart knowledge about different fiber, yarns and fabrics along with their properties.
  3. Enable students to understand fabric structures and their analysis.
  4. Identify different kinds of fabrics composition and weave.

The students will be able to –

 

CO82:Examine the chemical composition of fiber

CO83:Analyze various yarn identification methods and different types of yarns

CO84:Apply various fabric manufacturing techniques to create weaving samples

CO85:Develop understanding of fiber  identification and testing parameters of textiles

Interactive Lectures, Discussion, Tutorials, Demonstration

Practical assignments, Simulation, Portfolio Preparation, Giving tasks.

Class test, Semester end examinations, Quiz, Solving problems in tutorials, Assignments, Presentation

  • Fiber Identification tests –Visual, burning, microscopic and chemical                                                                                                                    10 hrs
  • Yarn Identification–Single, ply, cord, textured, elastic, monofilament,                                                                                                                    10 hrs

multifilament and spun yarn 

  • Yarn Twist- S & Z Twist                                                           
  • Thread count and balance                                                                 6 hrs
  • Dimensional stability                                                                           2 hrs
  • Weaves- Identification and their design interpretation on graph                                                                                                              12hrs
  • preparation of basic weaves sample on paper & loom                                  
  • Fabric analysis of light, medium & heavy weight fabrics (five each)                                                                                                                    20 hrs
