  1. To understand the theory and principles of dyeing in relation to various classes of dyes.
  2. To impart knowledge of the different methods of printing and appreciate the technical advantage of each.
  3. To create awareness for care and maintenance of textiles.

  • Terminology and theory of dyeing.
  • Classification of dyes: Natural and Synthetic dyes (properties of synthetic dyes)
  • Stages of dyeing – fiber dyeing, yarn dyeing, fabric dyeing and garment dyeing.

  • Methods of Printing- Block, Screen, Stencil, Roller and Rotary
  • Styles of Printing – Direct, Discharge and Resist

fabric finishes
  • Definition, Importance of finishing
  • Classification of finishes
  • Preparatory Process- Desizing, Scouring and Bleaching
  • Mechanical finishes- Sizing, Singeing, Mercerization, Napping, Embossing,    Calendaring,
  • Functional finishes- Wrinkle resistant, Water-resistant and repellent,                           Flame Retardant, Soil Repellant, Mothproof and Anti static.
