Objective: 

This course will enable the students to:

  • To create awareness among rural people about the national nutrition programs.
  • Details regarding various programmes for women and child development.
  • Role of NGO’s in social development.

Programmes to Enhance Food Production :-

Thrust on agriculture, national food production programme ever since independence

  • Intensive production schemes- IADP,IAAP,HYV,Multiple cooking,ICDP,NDP,NDDB,MFALA,SFDA,DPAP,SDP,IFP,PDP in the field of cereal crops, pulses, fruits and other than agriculture: fisheries and dairy
  • Concept of Green Blue,White,Yellow,Golden Revolution

Poverty Alleviation Effort :-
  • Programmes for poverty alleviation for rural and urban areas; employment generation and social inputs
  • Current programmes for rural and urban poor (including 5 years plans till date)
  • NREGA (Mahatama Gandhi nationl rural employment Generation act ): Self Help group: Swranjyanti Gram Swarojgar Yojyana: Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana : Swaran Jayanti, Shri Rojgar Yojana : National Food for Work Programme

  • Women as target groups – Specific measures for woman and children such as DWCRA, ICDS, Mid day meal IMY, Kishore Shakti Yojana, Anchal Se Aangan Tak
  • Shift from ‘Welfare’ approach to ‘Development’ approach to ‘Empowerment’ approach

  • Need for participation of non-governmental organizations in developmental efforts. Encouragement given to NGO’s – Role of CAPART

  • Examining the impact of the developmental efforts in selected rural and urban areas in terms of Quantitative achievement and qualitative improvement of programs.
